PC World and Windows Sources honor Gateway in four categories
Gateway 2000 won three awards in PC World's 15th Annual World Class Awards competition:
- Gateway's P5 Line, now called G-Series Professional Systems, won the World Class award for the Best Business Desktop Computer
- Gateway's Family PC Line, designated now as G-Series multimedia PCs, claimed the World Class prize as the Best Home Desktop Computer
- Gateway and one other company shared the World Class award for Best Hardware Support
The PC World contest is highly regarded among high technology magazine award programs, using an unbiased expert panel to identify the best products available in 84 categories of hardware, software, Internet, and service & support.

In the 1997 Windows Sources Experts' Choice Awards competition, Gateway 2000 won the award for its G6-266M in the Home Desktop System category. A panel of judges, made up of Windows Sources editors and contributors, selected up to five finalists in each category and then picked the winners.
